Long Island Chapter Board of Director Elections

We will hold elections for our chapter in February, 2007. Those who wish to run for an office must submit a brief biography to LongIslandTSA@aol.com by the end of January. We will compile these and send them to all chapter members with an election ballot for a mail-in election. Please consider running for an office, and contributing to the success of the chapter! All persons running for an office must have active, paid membership (submit payment to National TSA online at tsa-usa.org or by check at Tourette Syndrome Association, Inc., 42-40 Bell Boulevard, Bayside, NY 11361.

Board of Directors

1) Executive Board Positions
President: The president shall be the Chief Executive Officer of the Chapter and shall preside at all Chapter meetings of the Board of Directors of the Chapter. The President shall, with the Treasurer, sign all authorized contracts, notes, or other documents in the name and on the behalf of the Chapter. The President shall have all the powers and duties that are usually vested in the office, and such other duties as may be assigned by the Chapter Board of Directors from time to time.

Vice President: At the request of the President, the Vice President may perform all the duties designated by the President, and shall have other powers and perform other duties as the Chapter Board of Directors may, from time to time, assign. A request by the President that the Vice President act in his/her behalf in contractual matters must be made in writing. Secretary: The Secretary shall keep the minutes of all meetings. The Secretary shall attend to the giving and serving of all notices, and, in general, performs all duties incident to the office of Secretary, as well as those duties that may, from time to time, be assigned by the Chapter Board of Directors. The Chapter may have a Recording Secretary and a Corresponding Secretary, as two separate offices.

Treasurer: the Treasurer shall maintain all of the financial books and records of the Chapter, incorporation records of financial activities of area representatives or support groups into the chapter records. Support groups or other sub-groups of the Chapter shall not maintain bank accounts separate from the Chapter bank account.

The Treasurer may endorse for collection checks, notes, and other obligations on behalf of the Chapter, and shall promptly deposit same in a bank account or banks designated by the Board of Directors in the name of the Chapter. All Chapter disbursements shall be made by check. The Treasurer shall maintain all fiscal records in a current and timely manner, and, in general, perform all duties incident to the office of Treasurer. The Treasurer shall make a financial report at each meeting of the Chapter Board of Directors and at each Chapter membership meeting, and to the National Association Board of Directors when requested.

The Treasurer shall submit to the Association Director of Chapter Services quarterly Chapter financial reports on forms authorized by the Association. For Chapters that are required to file IRS form 990, the Treasurer will submit the 990 by the deadline established by the IRS.

2) Other Director Offices
(We welcome proposals for additional offices)

Chair of the Education/Advocacy Committee: The Chair of the Education/Advocacy Committee shall send out annual mailings to the schools on Long Island informing them of the Chapter’s in-service Education/Advocacy program. The Chair of the Education/Advocacy Committee be responsible for engaging in/and coordinating education/advocacy presentations at schools that request them. He/she shall also train other members willing and able to perform the same duties.

Chair of Fundraising Committee: Coordinate, and implement with other members, fundraising activities that are appropriate for the Long Island Chapter and its needs. The Fundraising Chair shall contribute ideas, and, with help from other Board members as appropriate, contact businesses and facilities in regard to potential fundraising events. The Fundraising Chair shall be responsible for sending thank you notes to donors for financial and other contributions. The Fundraising Chair shall coordinate an annual membership contribution mail campaign.

Chair of the Newsletter Committee: The Chair of the Newsletter Committee shall be responsible for coordinating content of the Chapter’s quarterly newsletter, and overseeing its layout, production and mailing.

Chair of the Government Liaison Committee: The Chair of the Government Liaison Committee shall be responsible for contacting local government officials, and coordinating members to make such contacts, urging their support with regard to various government policies (IDEA, Insurance parity, etc.) that affect the TS community.

Chair of Activities Committee: The Chair of the Activities Committee shall be responsible for coordinating, and implementing with help from other officers and members, various social events for Chapter families, children and/or parents.

Chair of Membership Coordinating Committee: The Chair of the Membership Coordinating Committee shall keep accurate, updated and detailed records of active and past members. The Chair of the Membership Coordinating Committee shall be responsible for contacting members regarding activities, and identifying and soliciting help from members who express a willingness to share specific talents, skills and time toward particular tasks and events.

Chair of Website Management Committee: The Chair of the Website Management Committee shall be responsible for regularly monitoring the Chapter website for the timeliness and accuracy of content, and either making changes as necessary him/herself, or contacting the person responsible for such modifications.

Chair of Local Medical/Psychological Liaison Committee: The Chair of the Local Medical/Psychological Liaison Committee shall be responsible for identifying and coordinating members in various locales on Long Island who would be willing to contact local hospitals and physicians to assess their needs with regard to information materials/newsletters from the Chapter and Education/Advocacy programs.
